Many fans of the series search for “Hotel do Chaves”, but the official name of the property in real life is Hotel Emporio Acapulco. At the time of recording the series in the 70s (in 1977), the hotel belonged to the Continental Plaza chain and was owned by Emilio Azcárraga Milmo, owner of the Televisa network (producer of the series Chaves and Chapolin Colorado).
Why Acapulco?
We were determined to visit the Mexico City and somewhere in the coastline, but we didn't exactly want Cancun. Not that we have reservations with the city, but besides it being more expensive, it is very touristy, and we were thinking of something more “Mexico”. We started to see Los Cabos, which attracted us right away, but then the idea came: Why not Acapulco? In addition to being the capital's residents' favorite beach (it's just a 4-hour drive or 45-minute flight), we have immense affection for the country's culture and our nostalgic childhood watching the series Keys!
Room 1027
I had sent an email making this request to the Hotel Emporio Acapulco in advance, and despite not having promised us anything, they kindly accommodated us in the room 1027, same room where Your Belly and Keys stayed on the original recordings.
When we opened the door, nostalgia set in completely! Of course, a lot of things were modernized, but everything looked the same! The two beds, the balcony with railings, the stone in the sea. It was like stepping into the episode 🙂 .
Classic swimming pools
In the pool area it was also impossible not to remember them all the time. There is no longer the trampoline that appears in Chapolin and Keys, but the main pool is unmistakable.
Many things have been renovated, but you can still recognize a lot of the original architecture. There are also currently two other pools besides the one known from the episode.
In these other two pools, only guests over 18 years of age can enter. They were silent environments for reading or relaxing on the sun loungers. Furthermore, the Hotel Emporio Acapulco It has excellent Wi-Fi, a wonderful breakfast and attentive service.
